Description
Photographer Rankin has announced a first of its kind rental property in North London. Called The Penthouse Salon, this revolutionary new space is one part art gallery and one part luxury accommodation.
With a space designed by the photographer, in conjunction with his long-term architect, and interiors produced in collaboration with photography curator Ellen Stone, The Penthouse Salon promises to be the perfect place to entertain, party and even take photographs. Sitting above Rankinʼs long-term photographic studio, this contemporary location space is designed with flexibility at its heart, perfect for creative projects and relaxing nights away.
The Penthouse Salon also brings the art gallery to a living space, as it hosts a rolling exhibition series, showcasing new works from Rankin and his close collaborators. Changing every three months, and marked by talks, private views and art events, the space is a dynamic centre for creativity and conversation in Kentish Town.
To launch this new exhibition concept, Rankin is showcasing a brand-new series of works, taken during lockdown 2020, entitled An Exploding World. These new pieces exploring the aesthetic of destruction, creating images reminiscent of nuclear explosions. Each frame becoming a take on apocalyptic anxiety, and overcoming this through creative production.
“For years now I’ve been obsessed with the perfection of a dandelion seed head. Seen as weeds, they grow absolutely everywhere, especially in the city. And during a time of great stress, there was comfort in them. Especially as growing up the idea of blowing them was associated with making a wish.” - Rankin discussing his flower projects.
Showcasing 25 new works, An Exploding World is an expression of Rankinʻs frustration during isolation, and the expressive creativity that emerged.
